A new business VoIP study from In-Stat, surveyed 1,000 U.S. business decision makers and highlights VoIP deployments by industry verticals.

According to the reports findings, among industry verticals today, the government sector has the most VoIP penetration with 48 percent of survey respondents noting they have at least one location with VoIP.

The report, “Business VoIP Overview by Vertical Industry,” also reveals industry distinctions related to VoIP including cost savings playing a major factor for educational institutions, while scalability and features ranking higher in importance for the government sector.

“Overall, integration is more critical than cost savings,” Norm Bogen, In-Stat research vice president said.

In addition, the study revealed that Verizon was the most cited provider of Broadband IP Telephony for government institutions, while Cisco led in IP-PBX for all segments -especially the education sector.

Also, AT&T was named as a top provider of IP Centrex solutions for businesses and vertical markets of all sizes. Hosted IP Centrex was found to be most used by government and healthcare segments according to the research.
