This talk aims to bring Asterisk users up to date on WebRTC, and how it will change the communications landscape.

WebRTC is an emerging standard from the IETF and w3C defining how to incorporate realtime voice and video in browsers (without plugins).

It is designed to be interoperable with existing SIP networks. This makes every browser is a potential softphone!

We will describe the technical background to WebRTC, the choices made and demonstrate a call or two. (The second part of the talk, by Joshua Colp will describe asterisk's current and future support of webRTC)

IPv4 runout is upon us. The IANA free pool has been empty for more than a year. APNIC has been in austerity for more than a year. RIPE-NCC's free pool will likely be gone before Astricon. Last year's World IPv6 Day was a huge success and a great test of the ability to deploy IPv6 on public facing services and content. In June of 2012, many web sites will have turned on IPv6 permanently.

This session will discuss the need to deploy IPv6 and some of the specifics of doing so.

By using cutting edge NodeJS and HTML5 technologies, Holiday Extras have created a new layer to their CRM system; this is as a result of the $800,000 that they have invested in hassle-free technology. Contact Centre agents now benefit from an immediate connection with Asterisk via their browser. The Asterisk-AMI module has been open-sourced on Node's Package Manager (npm) allowing widespread creation of real-time applications using NodeJS.

During the session, we will implement a browser-based application inspired by Holiday Extras' work. Using HTML5 Web Sockets and NodeJS, we will produce an extremely powerful tool capable of instantaneous interaction with Asterisk through the AMI. The in-application possibilities are boundless, allowing customised Contact Centre administration that includes the dynamic management of agent call queues at peak times and instantaneous collective system control. The limitations are few, stretching only to the user's imagination and the fast-growing abilities of the AMI.

This session will describe how a global nonprofit media ministry used Asterisk to replace Cisco Call Manager and disparate proprietary hybrid PBX systems around the world, and has saved money in the process. The challenges, issues and resolutions will be discussed. Importantly, the cost savings of deploying Asterisk will be discussed. This session will be of interest to newcomers to Asterisk as well as to experienced IT professionals who are considering Asterisk as a possible VOIP solution. It will especially interest other non profit organizations who are limited by budget.

In our non-profit organisation are my collegues most of the time out of the office. We didn't want to give my collegues a mobile number because are clients expect from a mobile number that we are always available. We connected 135 android mobiles to an Asterisk PBX through WiFi. If WiFi isn't available, the incoming calls are forwarded to the mobile number of the mobile. The lecture will handle technical aspects as well as user experiences like: * Choosing the right phone with the right sipclient within budget * Keeping WiFi active even in standby * Getting DHCP to handle the UIDsetting of the androids * Configuring an openLDAP phonebook * Features that our users find missing

Voice networks connected to Internet are constant targets for Voice Hackers trying to compromise systems to make free phone calls. This paper explores the implementation of the log scanner ‘Fail2ban’ in conjunction with custom perl scripts to add IP Access List entries to Cisco routers and switches to block Hackers.
12/04/2012
Fail2Ban is a wonderful tool, but it is only one of many tools out there to assist in the protection of your Asterisk server. Some of these tools are so simple, that by utilizing very simple techniques, a complete lock down can be enforced. The session will share some methods that were deployed over the course of the years 2010 and 2011 and several locations - and had proved to reduce the risk of hacking and fraud tremendously.

Decentralized tiered call queues
Decentralized voicemail services
Decentralized inbound and outbound call recordings
Make use of local telephony resources between each site
Allow extensions to move between sites easily
Provide automatic and monitored site to site failover through backup routesSecondary goals were:
Provide RTP transfer capabilities
Simple least cost routing

If you use a database for your products, why not use a database for your Asterisk as well?Part 1: Using PostgreSQL stored procedures written in Perl to send AMI commands. The usage is unlimited, you can do anything from dial to mute! These concepts apply to any database supporting stored procedures.

Part 2: Using PostgreSQL tables to store live state information such as current calls in the call queue or current calls in the conference bridge. This enables a streamlined approach on combining user account information with current call activity.

This session assumes minimal knowledge of database stored procedures, the Asterisk AMI and it helps to be familiar with Perl or another scripting language such as Python.

Today businesses don’t have to limit their customer base to their own backyard. With the many advancements in accessible global infrastructure, virtually any company can have a global audience and the profitability benefits that come with it – if you know the right way to scale.

This session will examine how companies at any size can leverage the unprecedented access of the cloud in order to take their sites from one location to multiple locations across the world.

We will look at the architectural challenges of going multisite, proven best practices, and realworld examples of the performance improvements achieved.

Subtopics:
* Pros and cons of going multisite: does the investment make sense for you, because it doesnt for everyone
* Architectural challenges in moving from one physical location to two data consistency, WAN performance, costs
* Best practices in scaling across multiple datacenters, multiple clouds, and multiple continents
* Real world performance improvements as measured globally, and what effort/investment was required to rearchitect and achieve them.
