IntelePeer Pulls PRI, TDM into Atmosphere

With all the talk about the cloud and IP telephony, you might think that everybody has made a full transition to these technologies. But the fact is that plenty of businesses still rely on legacy phone equipment. Recognizing this reality, IntelePeer expanded its Atmosphere Voice Services to address PRI and TDM users.

That will enable businesses to realize an average savings of 40 percent on their telecommunications services. IntelePeer adds that its customers will also enjoy better network resiliency. Plus, leveraging Atmosphere Voice Services, which is a unified communications-as-a-service offering, will move these companies into the future.

“Expanding our service offerings to legacy communications equipment is proof of our commitment to bringing the power of the cloud to business communications,” said Robert Galop, senior vice president of product marketing at IntelePeer.

According to IHS Markit, IntelePeer is among the top SIP trunking providers. The research firm’s SIP Trunking North America Service Provider Scorecard says Level 3 is the leader. Verizon, CenturyLink, AT&T, and Windstream follow it in the SIP trunking arena. And Birch, Fusion, IntelePeer, Sprint, and Twilio are amother the others listed in the scorecard.

“Level 3 retained the leadership position in our scorecard for the second consecutive year with the largest installed base of SIP trunks,” said Diane Myers, senior research director for VoIP, UC and IMS at IHS Markit. “We expect Level 3’s position to be strengthened going forward due to its acquisition by CenturyLink, who ranked third in this year’s Scorecard.

“Verizon came in as a strong second due to the acquisition of XO and its installed base,” Myers added. “The name of the game with the large network operators is consolidation, and it has absolutely impacted the top end of the SIP trunking market, resulting in fewer options for businesses.”

Myers also said: “Many of the top SIP trunking providers consistently continue to do the right things, but their strategic focus is on higher margin services, particularly unified communications as a service and cloud contact center. In that regard, less work is going into service enhancements, but efforts on back-end operations do continue, particularly provisioning automation and customer portals.”
