Network Early, Use VoIP Tech from the Start Before Opening a Business

Starting a new business can be a major challenge, and networking is a key part of ensuring the success of that future business. Remember, too, that waiting until a business is up and running may be too much of a delay in building a network of future customers or contacts.

It is much better to come up with a relationship network before the business opens. This is especially the case since 90 percent of owners of small businesses get business from referrals, according to a blog post from Nextiva.

In coming up with suggestions on how to build the network, one important point is to locate local peers, the blog post said. That means getting involved with support groups or networking organizations for businesses in a sector, which look for new members and hold public meetings. It is possible to join such an organization before opening a business, and the group would likely welcome you at meetings. By showing up, you will be able to judge other businesses in the field, and may be able to pick up suggestions on meeting the needs of the target audience. In addition, partnerships are possible with businesses which offer related services to what you plan to provide. Other business owners may want to be a mentor to you as you plan to open your business, as well.

A second area relates to social media. By using social media, you can create a profile and release content even before you have set up a company website. That includes becoming a thought leader in the sector. Look at what others in your field do in social media, too. Social media also provides readers for blog posts, and future visitors to your website.

A third way to network early is by attending industry conferences, local business events and workshops. That gives a chance to pick up business cards, and meet with others. In addition, Nextiva says such meetings or conferences let you “bounce your business idea off of other people to see if it’s even got viability” before it is launched.

And a fourth way to network early is to join LinkedIn groups. Members of groups on the site often give ideas and feedback, even if you haven’t yet started a business.

One final thought, building business relationships, before a business opens, makes sense, because you likely have more time now, than after a business is launched. And you will need to stay in touch with everyone. New owners may want to sign up for a business Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system to stay connected with employees, customers and clients. That will help build on the practical steps related to networking to ensure the connectivity goes even further.
