Want to Grow Your Business? Try Delegation and the Virtual PBX

Every business wants to achieve a competitive edge, but it’s a goal that is easier to state than to achieve. Understanding the tools necessary to outpace the competition is essential, but so is implementing certain strategies and technologies. One should center on delegation while the other pays attention to communications with the virtual PBX.

A recent blog posted by virtual PBX provider, Nextiva, focused on the delegation side of these efforts. The primary point – the small business owner seeking to expand must learn to delegate certain responsibilities. After all, even the most innovative of leaders can’t do it all. He or she must be able to trust the team to carry out specific tasks.

Nextiva does offer some tips on topic to help make the transition from “doer” to “empowering leader”. The first step – decide what duties to delegate and what to keep. There are specific tasks that can only be done by the company leader, or just tasks that this person especially enjoys. Common sense does have to apply here. High-value tasks should be kept and low-value tasks delegated to keep the business moving forward.

Once the activities to be delegated are determine, the next step is to identify who will carry out these activities. If the delegated activities are as simple as answering the phone and managing the books, that individual will fill a much different need than the individual who may need to take over sales. Identify the right person according to the activities delegated and then train accordingly. The individual may bring specific skills to the job, but he or she still must be guided according to the methods of the business owner.

Finally, the business owner has to allow the empowered employee to execute on their assigned activities. It can be tempting to micromanage employees, but doing so negates any benefits that could have been realized by delegating in the first place. If employees are trained properly and given the tools to execute on these instructions, micromanagement isn’t necessary.

The tools to carry out assigned tasks can easily include the virtual PBX. This technology is essential in today’s competitive environment for the small business hoping to effectively compete. With business-class SIP trunking, the business can save money on all communications, increase the return on investment and even benefit from unlimited local and long distance calls. Plus, the business doesn’t have to switch out their existing PBX equipment.

Growth is a smart move for the small business owner wanting to take the operation to the next level. Leveraging important delegation skills and next generation technology can help along the way.
