CATO Survey Reveals SASE Security Threats

SASE is no longer the “next thing.” It’s here to stay. With businesses large and small migrating to the cloud, relying on anywhere, anytime connectivity to rise above the competition, security must be a priority.

CATO announced the results of The CATO Networks SASE Threat Research Report Q2, 2021. The SASE evangelist analyzed 263 billion enterprise network flows between April and June 2021, and in its research found some startling results.

"Cybersecurity risk assessment is based on visibility to threats as much as visibility to what is happening in the organization's network," says Etay Maor, senior director of security strategy at Cato Networks.

As organizations, embrace SASE and Zero Trust Architectures, location, user identity and device ID are what grant team members access to critical resources. The report illustrated the mounting threat posed by spoofing device IDs, with Spoofing-as-a-Service offerings growing at an alarming rate. Houdini, a well-known remote access Trojan (RAT), is one of the up-an-coming threats on the scenes, challenging IT to stay alert in the cat and mouse game of security.

CATO research also revealed the “blurred line” between personal and professional networks created by WFH, BYOD and consumer applications, like Amazon Sidewalk. Maor proposed, “How can you possibly assess company risk when there is no visibility to what devices and applications truly reside on the network?”
