It’s been some time since Verizon (News - Alert) asked, “Can you hear me now?” It’s fair to say, as an industry, Verizon’s voice is coming through crystal clear. In recent years, Verizon has ventured into new territory, evolving its business portfolio to include the “next big thing” in networking, SD-Branch.

Verizon unveiled its Software Defined Secure Branch to support businesses with a number of locations, educational institutions as well as state and local governments. The SD-WAN solution offered with Versa Networks, minimizes complexity through improved visibility, control and security within the network.

“Software Defined Secure Branch lets our customers focus on their business or organization as first priority, leaving the IT to us,” said Victoria Lonker, Verizon’s vice president of global products and solutions. “The simple, intuitive experience delivers rapid provisioning, a mobile management app, service health, application visibility and the security controls needed to protect the business.”

In specific, Software Defined Secure Branch delivers business continuity via enterprise-grade connectivity coupled with Verizon’s 4G LTE (News - Alert) network; bundled security; an application centric network; intuitive mobile app-based service management with continuous monitoring; and elevated collaboration, video and cloud-based service performance through SD-WAN’s ability to automatically adjust the network in the name of application performance.

“SD-WAN is a powerful and complex solution with many moving parts. Verizon’s new offer is a simple yet flexible way for businesses and partners to get technology at the level of features they need, and expand into new features as they need them,” said Brian Washburn, Practice Leader, Network Transformation and Cloud, Ovum (News - Alert).

SD-WAN is seeing its day in the sun, but this software-defined disruptor is not an enterprise-only play. While not all SD-WANs are one-size-fits all, any business can benefit from what SD-WAN has to offer. Verizon teaming with Versa is a venture with bright future.
