Easy Office Phone Supports Pan American Games

This year, the Pan American Games finds its home in Toronto, Canada. St. John Ambulance will provide immediate medical response for spectators and limited medical response for athletes, and it has sought help from Easy Office Phone for its communication needs.

Easy Office Phone recently announced that it will provide the voice and data backbone for communication between St. John Ambulance first responders who will work both on the streets of the event and at venue gates. Some volunteer first responders will also be responsible for providing medical care for athletes at the equestrian portion of the event. A centralized operations center will assist those individuals through use of the stated communications system.

Brian Cole, the CEO of St. John Ambulance Ontario, provided a quick comment about his organization's work with Easy Office Phone.

“St. John Ambulance is very pleased with the technology, service, and professionalism of Easy Office Phone‎ to help achieve its mission of providing service to the games,” Cole said. “The Easy Office Phone solution has been integral to St. John Ambulance's success with this initiative.”

Volunteers will also have access to a first responder camp where they can assist event attendees with more depth. Between the operations center and this camp, 600 responders will cover 1,700 shifts throughout the event. They will provide care 24 hours a day and volunteers will expect to donate about six to eight hours of their time. This will not be a small undertaking.

Easy Office Phone will offer voice and data service through a series of redundant layers. Its North America-based data centers will provide the first layer of service with a virtual private branch exchange (PBX) system. Below that layer, local circuits in the data center will act as a failover point. LTE wireless Internet will act as a last resort which can connect first to operations center phones and then to individual cell phones if necessary. Getconnected is slated to deliver cell phones for first responders who act in the field.

Previously targeting businesses with many mobile employees, the Easy Office Phone virtual PBX includes support for one-on-one calls as well as multi-party calls (videoconferencing). The jump to live event support will represent a leap for the company as it moves into the medical market.

Both St. John Ambulance and Easy Office Phone appear pleased with the arrangement and seem confident that the communications system will run smoothly to get attendees and athletes care as they need it.
