Virtual PBX Capabilities Highlighted for Improving Employee Efficiency

Did you know that the use of a virtual PBX can dramatically enhance the productivity and efficiency of employees working both inside and outside of the confines of an office? Powering key functions such as rich HD voice quality, supporting legacy or IP-based systems and boasting a high level of scalability, a robust PBX is now considered a mandatory tool that should be leveraged by a predominantly millennial-based workforce, aka individuals born after the year 1980.

In a recent blog post that can be found on the Nextiva website, key factors in regards to how a next-generation suite can enable employees to better serve customers were discussed.

First, due to the fact that most millennials have been using social media and the Web for many years already for their own personal use and thus are extremely comfortable with it, they should be empowered to use these communication channels to the advantage of your organization. “Tap them to manage your social media, develop your website or create online videos for marketing purposes. Enlist millennials to mentor older, less tech-savvy workers in things like using smartphones for business or understanding your CRM system,” the post recommends.

Next, ensure these valued employees are not just being given busy work that leaves them feeling as if they offer no value. If an employee is made to feel as if their role within a company isn’t vital, it is likely they will quickly move onto another position that makes them feel more valued. Thus, millennials must be given the freedom to complete a task in whatever way works best for them, yet should have enough guidance provided to know exactly what is expected of them. And with technology such as a virtual PBX in place, activities crucial to the ongoing success of any firm can be completed with a much higher level of efficiency than ever before.

Third, realize the sheer importance of feedback. As someone who has now been in the business world for quite a few years, I can’t tell you how vital it is to receive feedback on the way in which you conduct yourself, both positive and negative. The only way to truly learn is to get an outside perspective into how you are doing things and if you make a mistake, don’t fret; instead, just learn from it and move forward.

The post adds, “Millennials grew up getting constant reinforcement from their ‘helicopter parents,’ so they expect continual feedback on how they’re doing in the workplace, too. This may come off as needy, but it’s essential for helping millennials improve their performance and feel satisfied in their jobs.”

Lastly, a healthy work/life balance is key to not only a worker’s state of mind but also their performance. Rewarding employees with recognition or some other type of award like paid time off when they are doing a stellar job will help to motivate them to push forward in all aspects of their career. It will also propel others who may not be doing as great a job to take note from their colleagues. Working hard to complete an assigned task won’t likely continue if there is no appreciation shown by the employer.

As you can clearly see, technology has changed the way in which organizations and this generation’s workforce operate. While a suite of offerings like a virtual PBX can help to keep your businesses’ competitive edge, it won’t be able to stand on its own for very long without a dedicated workforce in tow.
