Service standards set the bar. In technology, where it’s easy to get lost in the cloud alphabet soup or an "industry-leading" marketing slogan, standards offer a path. The network is evolving, the digital age is here, and SD-WAN is lighting the way.

In March, MEF unveiled the first wave of MEF 3.0 Certified Service Providers naming Comcast Business, PCCW Global Spectrum Enterprise, Telia Company. This week, MEF (News - Alert) announced there are now 24 certified MEF 3.0 service providers, delivering a combined total of 77 certified MEF 3.0 SD-WAN and Carrier Ethernet services.

“The large number of MEF 3.0 certifications celebrated today represents a key milestone on our journey to develop a global federation of dynamic, trusted, and certified services that power enterprise digital transformation,” said Nan Chen, President, MEF. “I wish to congratulate each service provider for achieving MEF 3.0 certification and demonstrating their commitment to delivering innovative solutions with compelling value for customers.”

The SD-WAN space hit the billion dollar revenue mark in 2019, and is expected to surpass four billion by 2023. But without a sound framework of service standards, there’s no common ground to move forward. With a prominent and growing member base, MEF is gaining an expanded stage and augmented ripple effect – And, is in a position to play a crucial role for years to come.

“As one of the first service providers to achieve MEF 3.0 SD-WAN certification, we’re committed to being a technology and standards leader in the Ethernet ecosystem to improve the quality, management and interoperability of Ethernet services for our customers,” said Bob Victor, SVP Product Management, Comcast (News - Alert) Business. “We’re encouraged by the expanding number of certified MEF 3.0 service providers and are proud to be included among the leaders offering the industry’s most innovative WAN services.”
