Netherlands Mondriaan College Deploys Xirrus WiFi Arrays

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Xirrus, a major player in high-performance WiFi (News - Alert) that delivers the most coverage, bandwidth and user density in the industry, has deployed Xirrus high-performance 802.11n WiFi Arrays across Mondriaan College, located in Oss, Netherlands.

As the only public school in the region, Mondriaan College is a vibrant facility educating over 1,500 students each year.

Thanks to Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays, Mondriaan College would now be able to build wireless infrastructure using far fewer devices than traditional offerings, while deploying a high performance network capable of supporting their large student population.

“We are building our wireless infrastructure to prepare for the immediate future. We see the balance changing from wired to wireless and that’s why we choose to build our wireless infrastructure around Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays,” said Lukasik Mart, head of ICT and media at Mondriaan College, in a statement.”

Mart said that the college started to look around at the various Wi-Fi solutions available, visiting schools, reading articles, interviewing representatives from various vendors. Most Wi-Fi vendors have hidden costs for additional radios, software packages, etc.

He said that during research, the college came across a review on the Xirrus products, which goes one step further than traditional solutions by offering a simple and manageable wireless infrastructure.

“With Xirrus, we didn’t need 40 to 50 access points, 40 to 50 switches or 40 to 50 dedicated cables other vendor offerings required. The Xirrus product is an intelligent design – it’s not traditional and ideal for our wireless initiatives,” said Mart. “Further, we were charmed by the Xirrus value added marketing concept – no hidden costs and implementation guarantee. You buy the devices and with that price you have bought everything you need to deploy a high performance wireless network. That is totally different than other wireless products.”

He said that in two to three years, every student will walk around with a computing device connected to the network.
