Vonage ( News - Alert) kicked off this week with the launch of its first mobile calling application for iPhone and BlackBerry ( News - Alert) smartphones, as well as iPod Touch devices.
Dubbed “Vonage Mobile” by the Holmdel, N.J., company, the free, downloadable application provides seamless, low-cost international calling while on WiFi ( News - Alert) or cell networks, according to the company.
Free of cumbersome access numbers, users can make calls for less from home or a WiFi hotspot, bypassing traditional carrier service. The service is designed to save customers more than 50 percent on calls to more than 60 countries. Users simply enter an international number or select a contact from the existing contacts on and iPhone ( News - Alert) or Blackberry and hit “send.”
