France's Arts et Metiers ParisTech Selects Aruba's Systems

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

The Arts et Métiers ParisTech has reportedly deployed Aruba's adaptive wireless solutions at its Aix-en-Provence, Angers, Bordeaux, Châlons-en-Champagne, Chambéry, Cluny, Lille, Metz, Chalon-sur-Saône and Paris campuses.

Originally founded by the Duke of Rochefoucauld-Liancourt in 1780, the institution is one of France's ten most prestigious engineering schools and welcomes more than 4,500 students every year.

Aruba officials said that the new wireless LAN links students, faculty and staff members to network resources, and also provides guest Internet access to visitors.

The multi-campus deployment was undertaken by Aruba partner and wireless LAN specialist, Bluesafe.

According to company officials, the new network enables users to move between Arts et Métiers ParisTech's campuses with the assurance that authentication and access rights will be consistently and uniformly applied regardless of how or where they access the wireless network.

"We wanted to continue ensuring optimum security within our campuses and Aruba made this possible," Sylvain Ricard, who heads up the school's wireless project, said.

Ricard said that Aruba's integrated ICSA-certified firewall implements and manages user profiles and access, while strong WPA2 encryption means that data are always secure.

“Of course, security is for naught if the network isn't reliable, and Aruba's adaptive Wi-Fi technology optimizes both client and network performance in real-time without any manual intervention by my team,” Ricard said. “No site surveys, no tweaking – it just works”.

Bluesafe's applications expertise, and their willingness to address the institutions specific deployment needs, made the commissioning process uneventful, Ricard said.

"Today it is a given that educational institutions need wireless networks, but as they have evolved into business-critical infrastructure a keen eye has been turned on the security and integrity of those networks," Pascal Desaint, general manager for France and Southern Europe, Aruba, said.

Desaint said that ENSAM's need for both an always-on wireless LAN and military-grade security is increasingly common, and Aruba has a very distinctive offering tailored to these requirements.

Additionally, the solution is also very economical has made Aruba a leader in the education wireless LAN market in France and other countries.

In September, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation selected Aruba’s FIPS 140-2 validated teleworker solutions to provide secure, “instant-on” network access for the agency’s traveling resolution and receivership specialists.
