When boarding a flight, many passengers immediately want to know if there will be in-flight Wi-Fi access provided. Some people, business executives especially, find that the few hours not plugged in results in being unproductive.
The Associated Press reported today that Southwest Airlines will now be providing in-flight Wi-Fi access on all of its aircraft.
The airline will partner with Internet Wi-Fi service provider Row 44 and will begin the program in the first quarter of 2010.
Since February 2009, the company has been testing the Wi-Fi service on four of its airplanes and feedback has been positive. Customers have reported the ability to use the in-flight Wi-Fi for many applications including e-mail and streaming video.
According to the Associated Press, Southwest has tested a variety of price points for the service and will continue testing price points through the end of 2009.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines and Atlanta-based Delta Airlines already offer onboard Wi-Fi service on some of its aircrafts, and Tempe, Ariz.-based US Airways says it'll begin offering service next year.
