Trapeze Networks Launches Trapeze LA-200E Location Appliance

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Trapeze Networks has launched its new Trapeze LA-200E Location Appliance, a system that’s designed to locate and track anything that is broadcasting a WiFi (News - Alert) signal, and to do that quickly and continuously.

The Trapeze LA-200E is the first product that supports locating and tracking 802.11n clients. The LA-200E appliance works with WiFi equipment from a number of WLAN infrastructure providers along with Trapeze Networks (News - Alert) NonStop Wireless infrastructure.

Wireless networks came to be accepted widely as a popular choice both at home and office due to their increased productivity and lowered costs. New types of wireless services and location services have started to be at the forefront at present.

Location applications belong to four categories, namely location tracking, location-based security, asset management and content delivery. Location tracking helps to find a person or valuable asset in real time whereas location-based security will control network access based on the location of a client device.

Asset management category of location applications will maintain and service equipment inventory and maximizing utilization. Location applications that belong to the content delivery category will provide users with appropriate content based on their location.

Most of the WiFi location tracking products available at present requires time-consuming installation of client software on every device to be tracked. The Trapeze LA-200E Location Appliance on the other hand, tracks and locates any WiFi device. Priced at US$15,995.00, the Trapeze LA-200E Location Appliance base platform is available to all Trapeze channel partners, VARs and customers in the U.S., Asia and Europe, Middle East and Africa immediately.

The LA-200E can simultaneously locate and track up to 4,000 wireless devices in real time to room level. Supporting up to 200 access points, the LA-200E will provide accurate location information for tracking WiFi enabled objects like laptops, PDAs, smartphones and WiFi enabled medical devices. In addition, a graphical dashboard is also available to view location and real-time movement of WiFi devices, people and asset tags.

Trapeze Networks is launching the RF Firewall along with the LA-200E. The RF Firewall is the first perimeter security product from Trapeze Networks for WLANs. The combination of RF Firewall with the LA-200E will provide a cost effective and integrated WIPS/WIDS alternative for enhanced location-based data security.

ActiveAsset 4.0 is an asset tracking and management application for WLANS present in the Trapeze RTLS portfolio that enables enterprises to improve business efficiency and reduce asset management costs.
