D-Link Unveils Version 2.0 of Network Monitor Widget

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

D-Link, a provider of end-to-end networking solutions, announced that it’s launched Version 2.0 of its D-Link Network Monitor, a desktop widget that displays real-time read outs of network performance on users’ desktops.

Supporting Yahoo! widgets, Vista gadgets and Mac dashboard, the latest version of Network Monitor widget enables users to monitor any D-Link 802.11n WiFi (News - Alert) routers, facilitating them to monitor speeds of Internet, WiFi as well as network.

In general, desktop widgets are interactive virtual tools providing single-purpose services such as showing the user the latest news, the current weather, the time, a calendar, a dictionary, a map program, a calculator, desktop notes, photo viewers, or even a language translator.

Available online, the D-Link (News - Alert) Network Monitor v2.0 is free to download and displays network performance in a gauge-style. The latest version of our widget displays key network performance data such as real-time Internet and network connection speeds, IP addresses of networked devices, security settings, port connections and more.

In addition, the network monitor widget allows users to change other settings of the home network such as security settings and network name, said the company.

“We’re aware that our customers demand more from their home networks, including the ability to monitor real-time performance of WiFi transmissions and Internet speeds, which is important for those looking to maximize performance,” said Daniel Kelley, senior director of marketing for D-Link. “We continue to build value-added features into our home networking products such as SharePort USB device sharing, D-Link Green technology, and now broad availability of the network monitoring widgets to give our customers the best experience possible as they build out their digital home”

D-Link said that the updated network-monitoring tool is compatible with all D-Link 802.11n routers, including the popular Xtreme N routers such as the DIR-625, DIR-628, DIR-655, DIR-825, DIR-855 and the DGL-4500 models.

Recently, D-Link started shipping its first industrial outdoor business-class 802.11N WLAN for small and medium businesses. In addition D-Link added CAPTCHA to its home routers, in order to prevent against attacks. D-Link says that this additional safety measure helps defend computers from worms, viruses and other growing security threats.
