GCT Semiconductor, a company that supplies mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) solutions, and Green Packet, which develops mobile broadband and networking solutions, reportedly have announced a strategic collaboration to pursue a solution that will allow wireless devices to roam between WiFi and WiMAX networks.

 

The new solution will include GCT’s GDM7215, a single-chip supporting both mobile WiMAX IEEE (News - Alert) 802.16e Wave 2 AND WiFi 802.11 b/g and Green Packet’s Intouch Connection Manager software. The CM software includes intelligent connection management, seamless connectivity between various network environments and lifestyle value added services into a single client.

 

End-users will benefit as they can now roam seamlessly between WiFi and WiMAX, and mobile portable devices such as netbooks, smartphones and mobile Internet devices also will see more capability.

 

The two companies say they’ll showcase their combined solution at a WiMAX Forum (News - Alert) event in Singapore.

Green Packet’s subsidiary, P1 launched “Wiggy,” a WiMAX dongle that’s enabled by GCT’s GDM7205, a mobile WiMAX 2.3 GHz single chip solution which includes RF, MAC and PHY in one monolithic integrated circuit. Thge company offers technologies, services and devices for simplifying and enhancing connectivity and communications. GCT and Green Packet have worked together before for delivering solutions to the WiMAX market.
