EnGenius Technologies to Boost WiFi Coverage

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

EnGenius Technologies reportedly has introduced the EOC1630 and EOC1650, solutions that provide 200mW of wireless power.

Designed to operate in outside environments, the new products are suited for customers looking to increase their existing wireless coverage or deploy a new WiFi (News - Alert) network.

Until now, long-range WiFi devices have been mainly confined to indoor uses. The technological shortcomings of these products made them unsuitable for use in outside environments. Although many of the long range WiFi products can be used for various purposes even in outside environments, there are many issues that have hindered such usage until now.

Creating EOC1630 and EOC1650 so that they adapt to various conditions, EnGenius designed these products with high performance and versatility. Each offers features such as high 200mW wireless power, signal Strength LED indicator, multiple operational modes, Quality of Service Technology, and Power-over-Ethernet.

“We designed these products with outdoor recreational businesses in mind; such as, marinas, campgrounds, golf courses or beach resorts”, said Roger Chien, Product Manager. “With an EOC outdoor wireless device in place, a boater can check the weather, email or conduct business from the comfort of his boat. While soaking up the sun on the beach, a vacationer can review local restaurants or buy theme park tickets.”

Both EOC1630 and EOC1650 have the capability to handle large volumes of data that is transmitted in today’s WiFi networks. EnGenius uses QoS technology, which allows the customers to read email or browse a web page outdoors. While the EOC1650 is designed with two antennas, the EOC1630 has a single external N-type antenna connector for use with various outdoor antennas.

In November last year, as TMCnet reported, the company introduced a new product, EAP-3660, which is a long-range wireless business class 802.11g access point/repeater. The new long-range wireless product was developed for WiFi applications, which will be used in residential and business environments such as airports, country clubs, convention centers, hotels, resorts, restaurants and schools.
