By Beverly Maniago, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Microsoft (News - Alert) is introducing Windows Mobile 6. This new version will allow mobile owners to customize their operating systems to make them look like Windows Vista and will give mobile units special features that were previously accessible only to personal computers.

This new operating system will be available to the public in the second quarter of 2007. With it, users can view e-mail messages in their original HTML Internet forma, web links can also be accessed using smartphones.

Window Mobile 6 also offers Instant Messaging through its feature called Windows Live, allowing users to send instant messages to multiple recipients. It also allows the sending of files, images and recordings of voice notes.

Other features include viewing, editing, and navigating MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint documents.

Vodafone recently announced its support to Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, along with Symbian/Nokia (News - Alert) Series and Linux. Sales are expected to double in the second quarter of 2007.

Just last week, Microsoft introduced Microsoft Vista, which offers a new range of navigation, organization, and search capabilities. According to Windows, Vista has hundreds of new features including updated user interface and improved multimedia creation tools. It was released five years after Windows XP was introduced to the public--the longest time span between two releases made by Windows.

These new technologies are aimed at helping Microsoft fulfill its mission to help customers by constantly updating and improving products.
