G2 Microsystems Intros Complete Wi-Fi Networking Module

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

G2 (News - Alert) Microsystems has introduced a complete, fully-calibrated Wi-Fi networking module that has the ability to instantly Internet-enable anything including battery-powered or microcontroller-based.

Providing the comprehensive networking communications hardware and software that designers require, the new G2M5477 module can speed product time to market. This capability eliminates redesign and testing hassles, and makes it simple to deploy basic wireless systems in as little as one day.

The company’s new module is built on their recently launched powerful Wi-Fi/wireless sensing/RTLS system-on-a-chip, the G2C547. Leveraging the new chip, the module uses less power and takes up less space than any other solution on the market, claims the company. G2 Microsystems also emphasize that it is the only module that can enable alkaline battery-powered devices.

Michael Stanford (News - Alert), analyst for The Linley Group, predicts that Wi-Fi’s growth in consumer devices is about to accelerate. Thanks to the new low-power Wi-Fi solutions with TCP/IP offload and flexible on-board processing, like the latest products from G2 Microsystems, it is easy to Internet-enable simple, battery-powered devices.

G2 also has announced the launch of two new software applications, Icon and Recon. Icon provides easy Internet connectivity to any 8- or 16-bit microcontroller and Recon makes it simple to create a sensing and telemetry application that delivers reports such as communicating temperature, motion, location, battery voltage and more over a Wi-Fi connected Internet.

Geoff Smith, G2 co-founder and CEO, pointed out that they are making it fast and easy to put Wi-Fi in anything that manufacturers and innovators can imagine. The G2 module is a complete Wi-Fi and networking solution that will truly deliver Wi-Fi freedom as it should be.

G2 Microsystems’ new G2M5477 module is pre-certified for FCC (News - Alert) regulations and boasts a built-in antenna, a 32-bit CPU, network stack, power management system, real-time clock, and a sensor interface. The module works with a simple processor – or autonomously, with no external processor at all to reduce development and testing time and costs.
