TapRoot Systems Inc. reportedly is saying its “always-with-you” Internet connectivity solution WalkingHotSpot, a screen capture of which is shown below, can be purchased online.
Officials from TapRoot say their company develops software for smartphones. One product, WalkingHotSpot, can make changes to the Windows Mobile 6 and S60 3G/Wi-Fi smartphones with a one-time software download to a WiFi ( News - Alert)-enabled smartphone.
This easily downloadable software is quick to install and converts the smartphone into a “walking” hotspot, according to Bob Bicksler, chief executive officer of TapRoot.
“WalkingHotSpot was launched as a beta-trial earlier this year, and Europe has proven to be one of our top markets,” Bicksler said. “Combining the proliferation of smartphones in Europe with the mature 3G infrastructure makes a strong user scenario for WalkingHotSpot. We see Europe as a significant market for this application. With WalkingHotSpot, users can feel confident they have a reliable, secure, inexpensive and readily available Internet connection wherever and whenever they need it.”
It helps users retrieve e-mails and browse the Internet on their Wi-Fi enabled devices, including laptops and MP3 players. Wireless subscribers don’t need to bother about datacards, cables, dongles and multiple service hotspot plans, company officials say, since WalkingHotSpot will allow them to consolidate connectivity subscriptions and expenses into a single economical solution.
Symbian OS and Microsoft ( News - Alert) Windows Mobile smartphone users can buy WalkingHotSpot from the WalkingHotSpot Web site for lifetime usage on the phone by paying a one-time fee. Users can also buy a monthly plan for a lesser amount. New users can try the service free by availing a seven-day free offer from the Web site.
