Ritter Communications Selects Zhone's Multi-Service Access Platform

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Zhone Technologies (News - Alert) reportedly has announced that Ritter Communications has selected its multi-service access platform to support the company’s network upgrade throughout the northern Arkansas coverage area.

Ritter Communications provides voice, cable video and full-service data networking to business and residential customers.

Ritter said that Zhone was selected because of its responsive and personalized customer service, robust platform, and support for future services. The company says it chose Zhone’s MALC with voice and ADSL2+ line cards to replace its legacy DSLAM equipment – a choice that’s expected to help it lay an extensible foundation for service expansion.

Sean Corder, network manager at Ritter Communications, said that Zhone’s platforms allow his company to converge voice and data in a single IP network while ensuring we can leverage our HFC network for advanced services in the future.

He said that his company expects to benefit from the close back-office integration of the access network enabled by Zhone’s ZMS. Corder also said that for the first time, customer service representatives and technical team will have a single, direct interface to network assets in our separate northeast and northwest service areas.

“Given the scale and complexity of our project, we’ve really valued the close, expert support Zhone’s team has provided as we plan our network evolution,” Corder said.

Steven Glapa, vice president of product management and marketing at Zhone, said that it’s gratifying to see the multi-service vision put to such good work by the Ritter Communications team.

Zhone Technologies provides multi-service access network solutions. The company offers a fully-integrated portfolio of MSAP, FTTx, EFM and WiFi (News - Alert) access technologies, enabling a full suite of services, including residential and business.

Glapa said that his company built out the common, flexible architecture for support of the full range of legacy and forward-looking access technologies – from POTS to GPON and everything between – to help service providers like Ritter meet competitive challenges and seize new revenue opportunities through multi-service access networks that enable greater service innovation while lowering costs.

In September, the company announced the release of the common software base for the company’s platforms. Zhone’s SLMS access operating system provides intelligent MSAP, FTTx, and EFM functionality on the company’s multiple hardware products.
