Alert) Networks announced that BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir and Cultural Center in Chino Hills, California has deployed its Aerohive wireless LAN solution on its 21-acre campus for supporting its mobile VoIP initiative. Aerohive created the controller-less “cooperative control” wireless LAN (WLAN) architecture.
BAPS adopted Aerohive’s cooperative control wireless LAN, as the solution was secure and allowed fast roaming and mesh connectivity at competitive costs. BAPS was in need of a campus-wide wireless LAN for supporting mobile VoIP for connecting indoor and outdoor video surveillance cameras, for streaming live video broadcasts covering the campus and also for the provision of secure Internet connectivity for its accounting department.
BAPS selected this solution as it was able to provide the security needed for roaming between access points, a necessity in VoWLAN applications. BAPS did not go for controller-based wireless LAN solutions as they were very expensive although they provided fast and secure roaming.
Aerohive’s wireless LANs are cost optimized in that they do not require expensive network controllers or overlay networks. The software in the Aerohive access points allows them to self-organize into groups called “hives” which share network control information.
HiveAPs can also form a mesh network with other HiveAPs which are not connected to the wired network, providing outdoor connectivity. Aerohive’s cooperative control architecture provides a scalable wireless solution utilizing the wireless mesh capabilities of each HiveAP.
“The Aerohive cooperative control architecture provides us with seamless roaming between wireless LAN access points without the prohibitive costs of controller-based networks,” said Kaivalyamurti Swami, information technology administrator, BAPS. “The Aerohive solution uniquely enabled us to realize our voice over wireless LAN objectives while meeting our other organizational and technology goals.”
Aerohive’s HiveManager Network Management System provides a zero-configuration, “plug-and-play” deployment besides offering a single centralized management instance for the wireless network. This is easy to manage for the small IT staff at BAPS.
Sheen Khoury, executive vice president, sales and field operations at Aerohive, said that Aerohive wireless LANs are most suitable for organizations desirous of deploying a voice over wireless LAN strategy. Aerohive’s wireless LAN architecture provides the high availability and low latency and jitter required by mobile VoIP applications. The QoS in each HiveAP allows for immediate response to changes in wireless signals.
The Aerohive wireless LAN deployment extends throughout the entire campus including the temple, parking areas and outdoor spaces.
