Italtel Collaborates with Cisco for Military Forces Day Celebration

Italtel, a company focused in the development and integration of Next Generation IP Networks and Services, signed a collaboration deal with Cisco to provide WiFi (News - Alert) coverage of the whole Circo Massimo historical area in Rome.




The collaboration is in connection to the celebration of the national event dedicated to Military Forces - “Giornata delle Forze Armate,” scheduled for Nov. 4, officially to be opened by the Italian president, Giorgio Napolitano.

"Due to the constant increase in the number of WiFi hotspots in cities and public places, authentication has become a very important topic. Italtel (News - Alert) designed a simple and safe way to access services that respects security rules and leverages on technological innovation. A relevant result we reached thanks to the competence and innovation capacity of our specialists,” said Stefano Pileri, chief executive officer at Italtel, in a statement.

Italtel official also clarified that the company has completed several projects for Italian Defense Ministry, all because of its experience and its competence in the design and implementation of networks and services with high security standards, the third Reggimento Trasmissioni of Italian Army assigned Italtel the realization, with Cisco (News - Alert), of a Mesh network for the 2010 edition of the event.

As stated, for the WiFi coverage of the Circo Massimo area, Italtel realized four access points and developed an innovative procedure that allows visitor to register, authenticate and access services while respecting privacy and security aspects.

Visitors who wish to register at the Circo Massimo hotspot can either get a Wireless Internet Access Card with access credentials or online, through the form that appears on their device while connected to the hotspot. By inserting their mobile phone number, users receive their credentials via SMS, said the company statement.
