T-Mobile USA to Deploy Kineto Wireless' Smart WiFi Application

By Sujata Garud, TMCnet Contributor

T-Mobile USA has decided to deploy Kineto Wireless’ Smart WiFi Application for WiFi Calling to improve indoor coverage through the use of existing WiFi access points. T-Mobile plans to preload Android (News - Alert)-based smartphones with Kineto’s application to extend T-Mobile’s existing WiFi Calling service.

In a press release, Torrie Dorrell, vice president of connected family products and services for T-Mobile USA, said, “Kineto’s Smart WiFi (News - Alert) Application will bring the WiFi Calling service that millions of our customers enjoy today to our powerful Android portfolio.”

T-Mobile recently announced the upcoming availability of built-in WiFi Calling solutions planned for a wide selection of Android-powered smartphones. Existing WiFi access points become extensions of the mobile network, increasing coverage and adding capacity in the places where customers demand it most – at home and in the office.

Business customers with a WiFi Calling plan can use it abroad to avoid expensive international roaming charges when calling back to the U.S.

Mark Powell, vice president and general manager of Kineto’s Client Business Unit, added, “Kineto’s Smart WiFi Application is a smart choice for T-Mobile (News - Alert); it’s a low-cost solution that makes use of WiFi access points already deployed in customer’s home or office to improve coverage and increase capacity. With the tremendous sales of Android smartphones the market is seeing, customers will appreciate coverage solutions on the latest and greatest smartphones.”

A consumer survey by NielsenWire stated: “While the iPhone (News - Alert) has been the headline grabber over the last few years in the smartphone market, Google’s Android Operating System has shown the most significant expansion in market share among current subscribers. Android’s rise is even more noticeable among new smartphone subscribers in the last six months where Android has nosed past Apple’s (News - Alert) iOS in the last quarter to grab a 27 percent share of those recent smartphone subscribers.”

Recently, T-Mobile and LG Mobile Phones announced the latest easy-to-use and affordably priced smartphone to join T-Mobile's extensive Android portfolio, LG Optimus T.
