A2P Messaging to Continue Global Upward Trend

By Stefania Viscusi August 15, 2022

Mobile messaging is the most common way for businesses to contact their customers. Not just chat support – which people are familiar with from using Facebook (News - Alert) Messenger or WhatsApp--but also advertising, appointment reminders, and other notifications are all being sent via mobile messaging today.

A2P messaging is the technology behind this capability. Also known as enterprise messaging or business texting, it is a type of SMS messaging technique where a text is sent from a software application run by an enterprise to a consumer's device.

It isn't unusual to get text reminders from your doctor's office, a retailer, or a password-reset code from your bank today. And these types of messages will continue. According to Grand View Research, the use of A2P messaging is expected to keep growing globally and will reach $96.73B by 2030.

As the use of smartphones has risen around the world, businesses have turned to SMS marketing and mobile ads to communicate with customers. This trend started to really take off during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Almost 62 percent of the messaging revenue share in 2021 is expected to come from platforms. Advancements in omnichannel marketing and the ability to engage in real time, as well as behavior-based triggers will increase their use in verticals like e-commerce, retail, travel, hospitality, and healthcare.

When it comes to deployments, the cloud segment has the largest share in 2021 and is expected to continue as highly-integrated cloud services and marketing campaigns are released. In terms of applications, CRM services are a leading application used for A2P messaging as many industries continue to invest in customer engagement tools
