Report: WiMAX Equipment and Devices Market Might Reach $4.97 Billion in 2013

Motorola (News - Alert) is leading the fast-rebounding WiMAX equipment and device market, reported Infonetics Research in its third quarter report on WiMAX (News - Alert) equipment, devices, and subscribers market share and forecast.

In addition, the worldwide WiMAX equipment and device market topped $290 million in third quarter of 2009 and was up by 11 percent sequentially, said Infonetics researchers.

Currently, the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa) is the source of WiMAX activity, led by Russia, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific. However, the delay in 3G licensing in India is slowing development in APAC, said the report.

With the rise in 802.16e-infused device revenues, Motorola reportedly experienced more than twice its worldwide WiMAX equipment and device revenue market share over the past two quarters. Earlier, Alvarion (News - Alert) was leading. Huawei and Proxim also experienced a strong quarter, said Infonetics in the report.

In general, Infonetics reported that the WiMAX equipment and devices market might reach $4.97 billion in 2013, mostly driven by developing countries. Additionally, the number of WiMAX subscribers is also expected to reach 3.9 million worldwide this year.

“The WiMAX equipment and device market is on the upswing, posting its second quarterly double-digit percent increase in a row in the third quarter, driven by revenue growth in all regions,” Richard Webb, Infonetics Research’s directing analyst for WiMAX, said in a statement. “We expect steady growth in the market over the next four quarters as the WiMAX ecosystem continues to take shape and more devices hit the market, driving adoption through the recession.”

Webb added, “Operators such as Yota in Russia and P1 in Malaysia are producing notable successes, and Clearwire (News - Alert) posted encouraging results recently, so WiMAX has solid operator proof-points to demonstrate its viability.”

Infonetics’ 3Q 2009 WiMAX report provides market size, market share, forecasts, and analysis for 802.16d and 802.16e network equipment, devices, and subscribers, such as macro, micro and pico base stations; CPE; ASN gateways; home agents; phones; netbooks; external broadband cards; and WiMAX and WiMAX VoIP subscribers.

This report also encompasses a :Service Provider WiMAX Deployment” tracker following more than 300 service providers with live WiMAX services, network rollouts in progress, and trials underway, tracked by region, country, network, subscribers, and announced vendors.

Some of the companies tracked by Infonetics Research are Airspan, Alcatel-Lucent, Alvarion, Cisco, GreenPacket, Harris-Stratex, HTC (News - Alert), Huawei, Motorola, NEC, Nokia Siemens, POSDATA, Proxim, Samsung, Starent, Vecima, WiNetworks, ZTE and ZyXEL.
