Data Center Appliance Market Growth in Q2 Led by Virtual Appliance Demand

Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group, a market research firm focused on the networking and telecommunications industries, today announced that the Data Center Appliance market saw four percent sequential revenue growth due largely to strong sales of virtual appliances. This information was released as part of the Dell'Oro Group Data Center Appliance Quarterly Report, which offers complete, in-depth coverage of the market.

"Virtual appliances make up just seven percent of total sales in the Data Center Appliance market, but contributed 37 percent of the revenue growth in 2Q12," said Casey Quillin, senior analyst at Dell'Oro Group. "Virtual appliances continue to benefit from the proliferation of virtualization and cloud computing, and we expect they will progressively increase their presence in production networks going forward."

The WAN Optimization segment grew by 58 percent in the second quarter of the year, leading the overall virtual appliance market in growth, followed by the Application Delivery Controller segment which grew 18 percent.

The report goes on to add that this year will turn out to be an important one to observe how virtual appliances take form in the Data Center Appliance Market. A10, Citrix, F5, Radware (News - Alert) and Riverbed are all vendors named by the report that have virtual offerings in the Data Center Appliance market.

In related news, Dell'Oro Group also recently published its Wireless LAN Quarterly Report, examining the Service Provider, Enterprise, and SOHO markets. The report found that, overall, wireless LAN revenue grew 16 percent as compared to the same period last year, largely driven by a 26 percent year over year increase in the enterprise WLAN segment.

Meanwhile, the research firm's Quarterly Access Report, also recently released, revealed that second quarter revenue for VDSL equipment grew by 15 percent over the same period in 2011, driven by record VDSL port shipments on infrastructure equipment and record CPE unit shipments.
