Keynote Presentation - Aculab(K-04)

02/03/11,  10:00am
Voice in the Clouds
Strategy, Architecture, Deployment
Cloud computing is the current darling of the IT industry, and pundits are continuously touting the benefits of virtualisation, out-sourcing and hosting of services at every opportunity. Although the economic benefits to the user are clear, many providers of telephony-based services have been more reticent to embrace this new computing metaphor, despite the fact that the technology itself is particularly well-suited to cloud deployment.

In this keynote, Alan Pound, Founder and CEO of Aculab plc, will discuss the issues involved in hosting voice services and media processing in a cloud environment. This will include consideration of different types of cloud presentation with their advantages and disadvantages, scalable architectures for cloud-based systems, along with methods and strategies for deployment.

Alan Pound biography
From a background of innovation in the music and audio industry, Alan Pound formed Aculab in 1978 to focus on the emerging IT technology market. From specialisation in telecommunications in the mid 1980’s, Aculab moved into PC-based E1 and T1 connectivity products, then subsequently in providing some of the highest capacity and most flexible media processing available, both DSP and host based, for TDM and IP environments.

As well as being Aculab’s CEO, Alan is recognised and respected within the industry as a visionary innovator. From the beginning of the computer telephony revolution on the 1990’s, Alan has contributed to Aculab’s success by bringing several industry firsts to market. The innovation continues with Alan’s current focus on cloud communications and how it could influence the future of telephony.
