Hasura Expands GraphQL Data API Automation to Oracle, MySQL & MariaDB Users

GraphQL innovation leader Hasura today announced support for Oracle, MySQL and MariaDB three of the top global databases, all developed using Hasura GraphQL data connectors. Available today in beta, these powerful remote relationship capabilities significantly reduce the time and effort necessary to build APIs to connect these and other data sources. These integrations allow Hasura users to instantly connect to these databases and many other data sources built on or with them, including AWS RDS, Azure MySQL, Google Cloud SQL for MySQL and Oracle MySQL Cloud Service. Used in conjunction with existing connectors for Snowflake, Hasura users now have the best of OLTP and OLAP interconnection for development of customer-facing or internal applications.

"According to our latest research, we find that Oracle, MySQL and MariaDB are some of the most widely used databases in the world. And the amount of time that developers at the companies who use them spend creating APIs to connect them with other sources is immense," said Paul Nashawaty, Principal Analyst, TechTarget Enterprise Strategy Group. "Shortening the time to value for these teams enables them to focus on more critical tasks. In addition, DIY (vs. buying) approaches to data source interconnection can reach a point of diminishing returns with regard to performance as connected databases and data consumer numbers increase."

"Our clients use relational databases extensively. Hasura has been an essential tool for us to accelerate value delivery by minimizing the amount of time we spend on API development," said Erik LaBianca, CTO of Synaptiq. "With Hasura's release of the Oracle connector, we can now extend the same value acceleration to our larger enterprise customers who leverage Oracle throughout their business."

Hasura GraphQL data connectors offer strong benefits for the following use cases:

  • Modernizing legacy applications to newer frontend frameworks like React, NodeJS, etc., with no change to the database
  • Building new applications on top of existing data
  • Combining data from MySQL, Oracle, and MariaDB with newer data sources (such as PostgreSQL and existing GraphQL APIs)

Hasura GraphQL Data APIs can be set up quickly and easily and require no custom coding. Users can connect a Hasura GraphQL API to their Oracle, MySQL or other data sources with just a few clicks of a mouse, eliminating weeks or months of time in API development. In addition, Hasura auto-generates documentation for users' APIs, making it easier for developers to start working with data from different sources immediately. This eliminates hours of training and significantly reduces total cost of ownership.

Hasura provides an alternative to RESTful API architecture, providing a single endpoint that returns structured data based on the queries it receives instead of having a separate endpoint for each type of data. This makes data easier to obtain, and also reduces the number of HTTP requests that need to be sent. Since Hasura GraphQL APIs only return the data that is requested, they can be less resource-intensive than traditional RESTful APIs.

"Today's announcement builds on a series of innovations, including the development of our data connectors and our support for Postgres and Snowflake, that together give Hasura users the optimal combination of OLTP and OLAP support," said Tanmai Gopal, co-founder and CEO of Hasura. "With support for the four top global databases, including the two announced today plus Microsoft SQL Server and Postgres, there's almost nothing our customers can't build using Hasura."
