Merlin Labs Receives First-Ever Certification Basis for an Autonomous Flight SystemBOSTON, Sept. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Merlin Labs is pleased to announce that the certification basis for its takeoff to touchdown autonomy system has been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA), in a joint project with the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Achieving this important program milestone makes Merlin the first company to reach an agreement on an approach for the certification of aircraft autonomy. Following a crawl, walk, run approach, this system incorporates an onboard safety pilot who will continue to act as legal pilot in command. It is a ritical milestone on the path to bringing autonomously piloted aircraft to the skies.
