About Jim Koontz

Jim was the first bicycle messenger in San Diego. Jim grew up in Iowa where he was the #1 ranked Junior Tennis Player. Jim went on to play for Duke University where he double-majored in Public Policy and Economics. Jim competed professionally on the USTA Challenger Circuit until he accepted a position at the White House working for then-Vice President George H.W. Bush. Jim transitioned to California for the 1988 Election cycle.

Deciding to remain in Southern California, Jim founded CalExpress, becoming a self-employed entrepreneur. His dedication and business acumen provided the catalyst for the growth and expansion of the messenger service which has emerged as a regional leader in the business sector.

Jim resides in Del Mar, CA with his wife and daughter.
