"Deerfield's mission is to advance healthcare. By aligning with and bringing together a stellar group of professionals in the space with common interests and complementary expertise, we will benefit from the collective expertise of all, with the ultimate shared goal of delivering cures to patients in need. Our programming, in partnership with The Deerfield Foundation, is one way in which we can be a contributing member to our ecosystem and public health at large," said Deerfield Managing Partner James E. Flynn.

Diversity initiatives have been embedded in Deerfield's culture and will flourish at the Cure. In healthcare, substantial disparities remain in leadership positions, entrepreneurial support and in quality of care. Deerfield's Break into the Boardroom® program, founded to promote greater representation of female healthcare executives on boards within the pulic, private, and non-profit sectors, has placed dozens of senior women executives in their first board role and provided mentoring to hundreds more. In 2019, Deerfield also introduced a new effort, Women in Science, focused on training women on how to commercialize their novel discoveries and create companies.

Through its Fellows program, Deerfield has proactively engaged a diverse group of students from the City University of New York (CUNY) to create opportunities to learn about careers in healthcare finance and entrepreneurship. Deerfield now counts many of these talented individuals as its colleagues.

In another effort to reduce inequities, Deerfield will announce shortly a new seed funding award designed to support early-stage life science startups headed by women and other minority founders in New York City.

In April, Deerfield will team up with the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy to launch a workshop: "What Scientists Need to Know to Successfully Develop and Market Their Ideas." The purpose of the workshop is to train life science students, academicians and professionals about how to bridge the gaps between scientific knowledge, product development and commercialization. This workshop also serves as the launch of a new, innovative accredited certificate program that will begin in early fall.

Deerfield's focus on best management practices and trends and other timely topics will be developed through its soon to be announced lecture series. The series will be launched in early January and led by experts initially covering such topics as how to lead companies and will expand over time.

All programming will be delivered through the Cure platform, virtually at the beginning and later through a hybrid fashion taking advantage of the state-of-the-art conference and teaching center. The opening of the Cure will include the relocation of Deerfield's corporate headquarters to the site at 345 Park Avenue South in New York City (from its current location of 780 Third Avenue). With this endeavor, Deerfield has invested $635 million to create the transformative healthcare innovation campus in New York City, designed to integrate the capabilities of innovators from industry, academia and government with the collective goal of advancing healthcare.
