Consumer Cellular Celebrates 25th Anniversary by Donating $2.5 Million to Toys for Tots

Consumer Cellular, the wireless provider ranked "Highest in Customer Service among Non-Contract Value Wireless Providers, Nine Times in a Row" by J.D. Power, has donated $2.5 million to Toys for Tots in celebration of the company's 25th anniversary.

"The wireless industry is almost unrecognizable from where we started 25 years ago," said John Marick, CEO of Consumer Cellular. "We have watched cellular technology grow and shift, and we've witnessed our customers' needs change over the years. Regardless of how the industry has evolved, one thing has remained constant - the need for affordable, reliable and accessible cellular service. Filling that void for our customers has been our main goal since day one and we're proud to say that it remains our top priority today."

Consumer Cellular has a long history of celebrating major milestones with donations to various charitable organizations.

"If you know us at all, you know we love to celebrate," continued Marick. "It's been a difficult year for so many. From COVID to the numerous natural disasters taking place around the country, we have witnessed countless families struggle. In choosing a charity, we looked for a partner who could help bring joy to families in need. We found that perfect partner in Toys for Tots and are thrilled to make this $2.5 million donation in honor of our 2,000 employees and the almost four million customers they serve daily. Our employees and customers are the heart of our business and we are proud to make this donation on their behalf."

"I can't express how grateful we are at Toys for Tots to receive such generous support from Consumer Cellular," said Toys for Tots CEO James B. Laster, Lieutenant General, USMC. "Last year, our Marines and volunteers distributed nearly 19 million toys to more than seven million children. This year, however, is like no other. Due to the pandemic, we anticipate local toy collections to be greatly impacted, limiting the number of toys available to distribute to those in need. We are also anticipating the number of families with children seeking assistance this holiday season to be greatly increased. Consumer Cellular' contribution will go a long way in helping us augment local toy drives, allowing us to deliver hope to millions of children who otherwise might have been forgotten. We couldn't be prouder of our association with Consumer Cellular and are honored to help them celebrate their 25th anniversary."

This year's donation is one of many contributions Consumer Cellular has made throughout the past 25 years in honor of major milestones. Last year, the company donated $350 thousand to the American Red Cross in celebration of its three-and-a-half millionth customer. In 2018, in commemoration of its three millionth customer, the company gifted $1.5 million to three charities and $1.5 million to its employees. The charities, chosen by the staff, included Shriners Hospital for Children, Meals on Wheels America and Providence Cancer Institute. In 2017, in recognition of its two-and-a-half million customers, Consumer Cellular donated $2.5 million worth of meals to Feeding America. In 2015, the company donated $2 million to the Knight Cancer Challenge in recognition of its two millionth customer. In commemoration of its one-and-a-half millionth customer, Consumer Cellular asked its employees to select three national charities, each of which received $150,000. Those charities were the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Wounded Warrior Project.

Already this year, Consumer Cellular donated an additional $250 thousand to the American Red Cross, as well as cell phones and service to those displaced by the recent fires in the West.

Consumer Cellular, founded in 1995 in Portland, Ore., now has nearly 2,000 employees at its offices based in Phoenix and Tempe, Ariz. and Portland and Redmond, Ore. The company is headquartered in Portland.
