Davis Polk Adds Antitrust Counsel Suzanne Munck in Washington DC
Davis Polk today announced that Suzanne Munck af Rosenschold has joined the firm as counsel in the Antitrust and Competition Group in Washington DC. Ms. Munck is a leading authority on both antitrust and intellectual property law with high-level experience at the Federal Trade Commission.
"Suzanne is an outstanding and highly respected antitrust lawyer. Her experience at the FTC (News - Alert) is extremely valuable to our clients tackling complex antitrust issues," said Neil Barr, Davis Polk's Managing Partner. "We are delighted to welcome her to the firm."
Ms. Munck comes to Davis Polk from the FTC, where she has served for the past 12 years, starting her career in the Bureau of Competition in 2007 and going on to hold two senior positions at the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property law. As Chief Counsel for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the Office of Policy Planning, she developed investigation strategies addressing intellectual property issues in public and non-public conduct and merger matters. She also formed attorney and economist teams to promote competition and innovation through research, advocacy, and intra- and interagency collaboration. She led the FTC's recent revision of the Antitrust Guidelines for the Licensing of Intellectual Property and is the lead author of the FTC report, Patent Assertion Entity Activity: An FTC Study. Ms. Munck also co-manged a study of whether current antitrust and consumer protection doctrine is fit for the modern economy, titled The FTC Hearings on Competition and Consumer Protection in the 21st Century.
"Suzanne is one of the premier competition lawyers in the country," said Arthur Burke, head of Davis Polk's Antitrust and Competition Group. "She is an excellent fit for the firm, and her extensive government experience combining antitrust and intellectual property law will further diversify our practice."
Davis Polk's antitrust practice combines broad experience in complex corporate transactions with a sophisticated litigation practice. Companies from around the world, as well as their executives and directors, retain our lawyers for their most significant antitrust matters. Our lawyers can bring to bear substantial government experience on all manner of enforcement actions. We frequently act as coordinating counsel for large defense groups, taking the lead in developing and advancing arguments, not only on behalf of our own clients but also on behalf of large groups of firms. In M&A matters, we have successfully obtained antitrust agency approval in numerous significant recent mergers and joint venture transactions.
Suzanne Munck said, "I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I have had to serve in government but am excited for this next step. I feel privileged to move into private practice with Davis Polk's top-notch Antitrust and Competition Group, a firm and practice I have long-respected."
Prior to joining the FTC, Ms. Munck was a litigator at Howrey LLP (2004-2007) and Sheppard Mullin (2001-2004). She received an A.B. in Mathematics from Bryn Mawr College in 1996. She received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2001, where she was a Managing Editor of the Minnesota Law Review.
