"The name perfectly conveys we're at the crossroads of America, with Crossroads Fountain at the center of many attractions that will draw visitors to Evergy Plaza fom around Kansas and across the country," notes Kurt Young, executive director of Topeka Lodging Association, which has directly and indirectly brought a total of $6.7 million to the plaza project through transient guest taxes (TGT) and Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) funding.

Capitol Federal® and Evergy each contributed $2.5 million to the $9.6 million Evergy Plaza performance and event venue project.

Following Evergy Plaza's grand opening in the spring, both children and adults will be invited to play in the Crossroads Fountain when it's in interactive mode during the day. Twice each day, visitors can also enjoy spectacular water shows synchronized to music and multicolor lights.

The 30-foot by 80-foot fountain site will feature 40 water jets in five staggered rows that will spray water up to 12 feet in the air when in show format. In the center, three large blast jets will shoot water up to 20 feet high during twice-a-day water shows.

Now under construction on the 600 block of South Kansas Avenue, the fountain will be a principal feature of the Evergy Plaza along with a 30-foot digital screen for sports watch parties and the 50-foot CapFed® on 7th Stage for major concert events. The plaza will become a gathering place for 250 events a year plus ice skating throughout the winter.

Counsilman-Hunsaker & Associates, St. Louis, designed the $1.6 million fountain. The architectural design firm is HTK (News - Alert) Architects, Topeka, and the general contractor is MCP Group of Topeka.
