SPECapc releases new Solidworks benchmark

GAINESVILLE, Va., Oct. 23, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SPEC’s Application Performance Characterization (SPECapc) project group has released new performance evaluation software for systems running Dassault Systemes' Solidworks CAD/CAM application. The benchmark is designed to run on Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit platforms.

The SPECapc for Solidworks 2019 benchmark includes 10 updated and new tests exercising a full range of graphics and CPU functionality. The graphics tests measure performance for both standard and enhanced graphics modes. The enhanced graphics mode is designed to take advantage of modern graphics adapters to deliver better performance. It is optional in Solidworks 2019 but is anticipated to become the default graphics mode in future versions. The new Solidworks Visualize renderer is used on select models to measure CPU ray tracing performance. Models used in the benchmark range in size from 392 MB to 2.3 GB in memory.

The benchmark incorporates order-independent transparency (OIT), a methodology for quickly displaying transparency, and full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA) for higher-quality visuals. It can be run with either default anti-aliasing (edges/sketches only) or with FSAA. Individual scores are generated for each test and composite scores are computed for graphics and CPU performance.

"The new SPECapc for Solidworks 2019 is the result of ongoing cooperation with Dassault Systemes and rigorous testing to help ensure consistent results across different platforms," saysTrey Morton, SPECapc chair. "Vendors can use the software to optimize performance for systems running Solidworks 2019 and users can use it to make better-informed decisions when buying and configuring workstations."

Available now for downloading

The SPECapc for Solidworks 2019 benchmark is available for immediate download on the SPEC website (www.spec.org/gwpg) under a two-tiered pricing structure: free for the user community and $2,500 for sellers of computer-related products and services. SPEC/GWPG members receive benchmark licenses as a membership benefit.
