HomeCare Connect's Jan Saunders and Nordstrom's Steve Tolan to Discuss Managing Amputation Cases at NWCDC 2019

Amputations are traumatic for everyone - the injured employee, their family and their employer. They also rank among the most expensive injuries to treat, averaging $98,125 per workers' compensation claim filed in 2016 and 2017, according to the National Council on Compensation Insurance.

Attendees of the National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference & Expo (NWCDC) can gain greater insight into these cases by attending the "Managing Amputation Cases for Optimal Outcomes" session on November 7 at 4:15 p.m.

HomeCare Connect's In-House Clinical Director of Prosthetics and Orthotics Jan A. Saunders, CPO, LPO discusses the type and timing of care, selecting the most appropriate prosthetic provider and prosthesis, and avoiding cost drivers. Saunders brings more than 40 years of experience as a prosthetic provider and the President of one of the country's largest prosthetics and orthotics companies to the presentation. Steve Tolan, National Workers' ompensation Director, Nordstrom Risk Management, describes the steps the employee-centric company took to manage a rare amputation case and shares lessons it learned.

"Audience (News - Alert) members will hear about the specialized treatment the injured worker needs to recover and return to work and the importance of selecting the right prosthetic provider and prosthesis," Saunders said. "They'll also learn practical steps that employers can take to facilitate recovery and maintain good relationships with their injured employees."
