MedRisk Welcomes Steven George, PT, PhD, FAPTA to its International Scientific Advisory Board


Steven Z. George, PT, PhD, FAPTA, Director of Musculoskeletal Research for the Duke Clinical Research Institute and Vice Chair of Research, Orthopaedic Surgery, at Duke University School of Medicine, has joined MedRisk's International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB).

ISAB is an elite panel of world-renowned specialists in physical medicine and workers' compensation who oversee clinical aspects of MedRisk's medical management programs, including its proprietary evidence-based guidelines.

Dr. George's research focuses on biopsychosocial models for the prevention and treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain disorders. His goals are to improve the ability to predict who will develop chronic pain and identify non-pharmacological treatment options that limit the development of chronic pain. Considered an international expert on low back pain, Dr. George has received numerous awards from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), American Pain Society, and the International Association for the Study of Pain. Prestigious organizations, including the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, ad APTA have supported his research with grant awards. He has co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in leading physical therapy, medical, rehabilitation and pain research journals. Dr. George serves on the editorial boards for Physical Therapy, Journal of Pain, and Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
