University of New Haven Experiences Dramatic Rise in U.S. News & World Report's Annual College Rankings

The University of New Haven has moved up nearly 30 spots in U.S. News & World Report's 2020 "Best Colleges" rankings. The University is ranked #66 in the North region of 179 comprehensive universities that offer a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs.

"This significant improvement in our U.S. News ranking is a testament to our talented students and our hard-working faculty, who continually create innovative learning opportunities that prepare our students for the careers of the future," said President Steven H. Kaplan, Ph.D. "These rankings take into account peer assessment, the academic achievement of our incoming students, and our graduation rate. Thanks to the dedication of everyone in our University community, all of these important metrics continue to rise."

In the 2020 rankings, the University's overall score and peer assessment, as calculated by U.S News, are up significantly, and the graduation rate and percent of first-year students in the top quarter of their high school class continue to rise.

The University was also ranked #28 in the North in the publication's "best undergraduate teaching" list and #38 in the North in the "best colleges for veterans" list. It is the 10th consecutive year the Uiversity has been recognized by U.S. News in its annual college rankings.

In 2020, the University will commemorate its Centennial year. A highlight of the year-long celebration will be the official dedication of the Bergami Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation, a pioneering facility that, among other cutting-edge amenities, will feature a makerspace, state-of-the-art science classrooms, communications studios, advanced "smart" classrooms, an atrium/café, and space for multidisciplinary student and faculty collaboration.

"Our standing in these influential rankings helps advance the great sense of momentum that is continuing to build at the University as we prepare to launch our second century of success," said Kaplan.

Last month, the University was again recognized by The Princeton Review in its annual rankings of the nation's top colleges. At the start of the semester, the University welcomed one of its largest incoming classes, which was selected from the biggest applicant pool in the history of the University.
