South State Bank Grows Branch Presence and Team in Raleigh


South State today announced it will open its second Raleigh location at 3201 Glenwood Avenue in September. Additionally, the bank has appointed Ben Collier market president for Raleigh.

The company has also announced the addition of a South State Investment Services group in Raleigh and Wilmington, N.C.:

John Parham will lead the local Investment Services team and brings more than 30 years of experience serving in various leadership positions with AXA Advisors and Lincoln Financial Group.

Shannon Jenke joins the team having previously worked with Baird Securities and BB&T. She brins 10 years of experience in financial planning, concierge service and relationship building that will help accelerate growth in the Raleigh and Wilmington markets.



Harry O'Conner started his career in the life-insurance industry before joining a firm where he worked in employee benefits and corporate retirement plans. He has more than 18 years of experience as a financial consultant.

Additionally, South State has announced its expanded leadership team in Raleigh:


Tom Coker is a commercial banker in Raleigh. Coker's varied banking career spans more than 15 years. He has demonstrated experience in construction loans, asset management, refinance, mergers & acquisitions, and asset-based lending. He's been with South State since 2013.

Jayson Foley recently joined the Raleigh team as a private banker. Previously with Wells Fargo (News - Alert), Foley served as district sales manager for business lending. With 13 years of experience in both private banking and commercial banking for large financial institutions, Foley brings a wealth of experience for South State clients.

Jeff Moncrief, CPA, has recently joined the South State Commercial Banking team. Moncrief was most recently a commercial banker in the middle market team with JPMorgan Chase Bank. He has extensive banking experience, having worked as a financial consultant and financial analyst, as well as a credit manager. Having served as the director of credit for an international manufacturing firm, he understands first-hand the challenges of commercial companies and how the South State Commercial Banking team can meet their needs.

Marcus Payden joined the team in 2018 and serves as branch manager for both of the Raleigh branches. He oversaw the opening of the first South State Raleigh branch at 6623 Falls of Neuse Road, which opened in March, and he is currently developing the team for the new Glenwood Avenue branch, scheduled to open in September. Payden has five years of experience in banking, most recently serving as a branch & business center manager with PNC (News - Alert) Bank.

Mike Romanus joined the team in 2017 and serves as a private banker. Romanus has nearly 20 years of experience in banking, including consumer banking, business banking and loan management. Romanus has lived in the Triangle area since 2012.

John Van Campen is a veteran mortgage loan officer who brings more than 28 years of mortgage experience to the South State team. Most recently, Van Campen worked for FM Lending as a senior mortgage originator for 21 years. He has lived in the Triangle for more than 40 years, and his experience in mortgage, as well as the Raleigh market, is extremely valuable to his clients as they make decisions about one of life's biggest events - purchasing a home.
