ARLINGTON, Va., May 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- John E. Wagner, PhD, is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are chosen from among a pool of the most prominent professionals and are selected on the basis of current reference value. An accomplished engineer with a career spanning nearly five decades, Dr. Wagner spent over 30 years with the United States Army. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1950, he advanced through the grades to the rank of colonel by 1970. An engineer with the First Field Force in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, Dr. Wagner became the director of the United States Army Engineer Topographic Laboratories in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, in 1971 and the directorate of Army research for the United States Army in Washington, D.C., in 1974.

Concluding his tenure with the United States Armed Forces, Dr. Wagner spent two years as an assistant for energy conservation with the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 1977 to 1979. Following this opportunity, he became deputy division engineer with C.E. in New York City from 1979 to 1981 and an executive secretary and national research engineer in Washington, D.C., from 1981 to 1984. Dr. Wagner held the position of senior engineer with Anser Inc. in Arlington, Virginia, from 1984 until his retirement in 1997.

A fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Dr. Wagner has contributed his skills to a number of other professional endeavors over the years. Notably, he has served as an editor for thre alumni publications of the United States Military Academy. He also maintains professional affiliation with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Society of American Military Engineers, Sigma Xi, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Association of the United States Army, among others. Civically, Dr. Wagner has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America.



Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Wagner completed coursework at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, from 1945 to 1946. Going on to earn a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, in 1950, he attended the University of Illinois, where he earned a Master of Science in 1959 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1961. He concluded his academic efforts with a Master of Business Administration from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1980. A registered professional engineer in the states of New York and Illinois, Dr. Wagner is a certified public accountant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Incredibly proud of his military service, Dr. Wagner considers being selected as a colonel to be one of the major highlights of his career. He is also very proud of the three books he edited with the United States Military Academy. Additionally, he found the time he spent as the director of the Engineer Topographic Laboratories incredibly gratifying, and he notably has an Antarctic geological feature, the Wagner Spur, named in his honor. Decorated for his service in the United State Army, he was presented with an Army Commendation Medal in 1964 and a Meritorious Service Medal in 1981. A three-time recipient of the Legion of Merit, Dr. Wagner has also been recognized with a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, a Defense Staff Identification Badge, a General Staff Identification Badge and an Air Medal.
