National NASPA Pillar of the Profession Award Honors Coastline College Vice President of Student Affairs

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Kathryn (Kate) Mueller, Ed.D., Vice President of Student Services at Coastline College, has been honored with the Pillar of the Profession Award by NASPA in recognition of her outstanding work in higher education and student affairs.

NASPA is the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession.  NASPA annually honors prominent higher education and student affairs leaders for their contributions.  The Pillar of the Profession award is presented to a leader in this field who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and guidance.

Kate Mueller has worked in higher education for over 34 years.  She began her career in higher education in 1985, when she by chance found a job at a small private institution in Southern California.   From that point forward, she knew she had found her calling:  to work in higher education and focus on student success in achieving their academic and professional goals.

During her career, she has worked at a variety of four-year institutions, public and private, large and small four-year, community college and international.   Since 2001, Dr. Mueller has worked in the Coast Community College District, as Dean of Students and then Dean of Enrollment Services at Orange Coast College, and currently at Coastline College as Vice President of Student Services.

Her experience has encompassed a broad spectrum of academia, including both academic affairs and student affairs.  As a professional of Student Services and Student Affairs, her areas of expertise and topics that she frequently presents and consults on comprise student learning outcomes, assessment in student affairs, behavioral assessment and student conduct issues, working internationally, and ethical leadership.

She has authored chapters in two books, both focusing on assessment and accountability in student affairs in higher education.  One of the joys of her professional life is to coach and mentor graduate students and professionals.
