Oracle Helps Urban Polo Bring Back Digital Concierge For a Rematch

Digital Assistant provides polo-and-music fans a modern digital experience bringing the sport of kings closer to the customer

SINGAPORE, Feb. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Urban Polo has once again engaged Oracle Cloud, including artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-powered intelligent bots, to help it bring the game of polo closer to the consumer during its premier polo events taking place in New Zealand, and new for 2019, also in Singapore.

Through a digital concierge accessed from a mobile phone, attendees can book tickets, get all the event's information right from their fingertips – how to get there, where the bar is, what times the matches start, when the pony parade is on, rules of the game, details of players, which DJs are playing and when, and access their 'live from the event' photos.

Simon Wilson, Director, Urban Polo, said, "The Urban Polo series is all about getting up close and personal to the live action.  Our chatbot concierge really helps in terms of providing this 'closeness' and a personal means of keeping in touch with our consumers and followers.  It gives attendees all the information they want, when they want – in a way that is very familiar to them – through their phone. What we found from last year's event was that users were much more engaged and it really helpd improve the consumer experience, for example giving them quick and easy access to the photo stream; people really get dressed up for these events."

Available via simple SMS, the Web or Facebook Messenger, users can ask it these questions and more in a natural and conversational way.  The deep learning-based natural language understanding (NLU) behind the Oracle Digital Assistant means it can comprehend conversations, determine intent and respond in context. The bot will continue to evolve, understand questions more effectively and better respond to varying questions from attendees over time by leveraging powerful machine learning.

"It's a delight to bring the bot back," said Esmond Tong, Vice President, Cloud Specialists, Asia Pacific, Oracle.  "It has given us the opportunity to take some of the learnings from last year to make the experience even better.  We've done more language training against the types of questions asked and also the types of slang that might get used.  We've also brought in other digital content including maps.  This ability to better engage with consumers, improve processes and productivity by freeing up time, is as applicable to business as it is to these events.  It's little wonder that we are seeing broad adoption from a large range of business and industries including leisure and hospitality, healthcare, utilities, retail and more."

The Urban Polo series will take place on 23 February in Singapore, then in Christchurch on 2 March and Auckland on 16 March.

The solution was implemented in under four weeks in conjunction with Oracle gold level OPN partner, Friday Solutions.
