Panasonic Makes Its Full-Frame Debut with Lumix DC-S1 and S1R Mirrorless Cameras; More Info at B&H

B&H is pleased to share the announcement of Panasonic's (News - Alert) first moves into the full-frame mirrorless market, with the S1 and S1R. These cameras differ only in the sensors they use-the S1 is optimized for video and photo and the S1R is the high-resolution option. Announced alongside the cameras is a trio of new lenses: the Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S., Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S., and the Lumix S PRO 50mm f/1.4.

The Panasonic S1 features a full-frame 24.2MP MOS sensor and Venus Engine, which have been optimized for video and stills performance. The two technologies afford a native sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 and a continuous shooting rate of up to 9 fps, with AF-S and 6 fps with AF-C. Excelling in video, the S1 supports UHD 4K60 recording, as well as UHD 4K40 recording with full-pixel readout, 4:2:0 10-bit color, and unlimited recording time. Complementing the video quality, a High Dynamic Range (HDR (News - Alert)) mode, along with a dedicated Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) Photo Style mode, can be used to expand highlight and shadow details and offers greater flexibility when color grading. An optional paid firmware update will be available to further heighten recording capabilities with support for 4:2:2 sampling, 10-bit color depth internal recording along with V-Log.

Its 1:2 maximum magnification ratio suits working with close-up subjects, and the Optical Image Stabilizer works in conjunction with the camera's Dual I.S. 2, to reduce the effects of camera shakea great deal. The second zoom is poised to be a true workhorse; the Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S. is a telephoto zoom featuring a sophisticated optical design, a dual linear and stepping motor AF system, and image stabilization, to enhance shooting handheld. Lastly, the Lumix S PRO 50mm f/1.4 is the first prime in the series, and is characterized by its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, optimized optical design, and dual AF system. Also, suiting the fast design, the lens touts an 11-blade diaphragm for a smooth, rounded bokeh quality.
