EscapeNet Deploys IP Infusion's OcNOS Network Operating System To Deliver Services for the GigCity Adelaide Network

IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for telecom and data communications services, announced that EscapeNet, an Australian Internet Service Provider (ISP), has deployed the OcNOS™ network operating system and developed a disaggregated networking model to power the GigCity Adelaide Network, an initiative of the Government of South Australia, offering gigabit speed services to innovation precincts across metro Adelaide. The initiative has been able to achieve highly affordable, ultrahigh speed services for businesses and startups due to the network's low CapEx and OpEx requirements.

The GigCity Adelaide Network is a four-year, $7.8 million (AUD) initiative, which connected 13 innovation precincts during the first stage in 2017 and plans to deliver 15 additional innovation precincts during the second stage. EscapeNet won an open tender to design, build and operate services to the precincts.

OcNOS is the industry's first full-featured network OS for White Box (News - Alert) and features include advanced capabilities, such as extensive switching and routing protocol support, MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching), and SDN (software defined networking). OcNOS features hybrid, centralized or distribute network support; scalable, modular high-performance network; and a robust data plane built on merchant silicon.

Working with IP Infusion (News - Alert) and adding disaggregated networking hardware, EscapeNet architected a network design centering on four local data centers. Innovation precincts are connected to two data centers with iverse fiber paths ensuring a highly available network. The extensive use of multiple fiber paths was feasible because of the not-for-profit fiber network, SABRENet, which serves the Adelaide research, education and innovation community.

The disaggregated networking design builds from a layer 3 Ethernet-based foundation complimented with EVPN VXLAN as the layer 2 technology. The design choice benefited from EVPN route control, layer2 flood control, multihoming and service multiplexing features.

"By relying on the industry proven and robust OcNOS and EVPN VXLAN solution, EscapeNet can offer production services with the highest quality of service," Stavros Patiniotis, Managing Director of EscapeNet. "IP Infusion's extensive software development experience coupled with disaggregated networking hardware enables us to develop a disaggregated networking solution that brings GigCity valuable additional services at a lower cost."

"By deploying OcNOS for their disaggregated networking solution, EscapeNet takes advantage of open networking benefits of lower CapEx and OpEx expenses and the agility to spin up new services faster," said Atsushi Ogata, President and CEO of IP Infusion. "With the addition of OcNOS, EscapeNet has another excellent tool in its toolbox in its dedication to run a truly next generation network which employs market leading technologies throughout its infrastructure."
