Massachusetts General, NBCRNA and ABVLM Now Using SelfStudy Content Discovery and Adaptive Learning Platform

SelfStudy Inc., the learning optimization technology company, today announced that three more organizations in the medical industry are now using the SelfStudy360 platform, including Massachusetts General Hospital, The National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) and The American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM). All three organizations selected SelfStudy's AI-powered platform to reduce costs and increase speed-to-market of personalized content discovery, and learning and training programs including certification and test preparation.

The SelfStudy360 platform - launched only four months ago - blends machine learning and dynamic item response theory algorithms developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to assess each user and their community and in real-time select the most relevant multimedia content to enable rapid mastery and retention of new knowledge. Similar to GPS navigation software, the platform ensures users are on the optimal path at all times to build knowledge, earn credit or attain certification.

The announcement of new customers comes after SelfStudy introduced CourseBuilder, a new module for the SelfStudy360 platform that enables instant, automated creation of adaptive learning programs, including any professional education, training or test preparation. CourseBuilder leverages SelfStudy's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to allow anyone to build highly effective, personalized learning experiences rapidly.

"The market's rapid adoption of SelfStudy360 is a testament to the platform's unique ability to model any content available and match it in real-time to each user's knowledge needs," said Brenda McLaughlin, SelfStudy co-founder and CEO. "Professional education and certification is a huge market and SelfStudy360 is the only personalized content discovery and adaptive learning platform that uses AI to give users the best path to mastery of an always-evolving body of knowledge."

Massachusetts General Hospital, the original and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, is using the SelfStudy360 platform to offer four continuing education courses in electroecephalography (EEG). The courses result in continuing medical education (CME) credits for physicians who complete the course. In August 2018, Massachusetts General was again named to the Honor Roll in the U.S. News & World Report list of "America's Best Hospitals."

"Educating busy anesthesiologists about neuroscience and EEG monitoring is no easy task," said Dr. Patrick L. Purdon, Nathaniel M. Sims Endowed Chair in Anesthesia Innovation and Bioengineering, Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Associate Professor of Anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School. "SelfStudy helped us bring our ideas to life in a format that was engaging, highly-personalized and enabled more rapid mastery of concepts and information in the course of physicians' daily routines. The SelfStudy team were a pleasure to work with. We look forward to working with them on future projects."

The National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) is using SelfStudy360 to deliver two practice exams designed to both promote lifelong learning while providing a tool to help assess knowledge and identify knowledge gaps, empowering its audience of certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). The NBCRNA is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting patient safety by enhancing provider quality in the field of nurse anesthesia. There are nearly 50,000 CRNAs in the United States working in every health care setting, in both rural and urban areas, in every state.

"We use the SelfStudy360 platform for our CPCA Practice product to provide a convenient, interactive, online practice exam experience for our CRNAs, allowing them to become familiar with types of questions that may appear on future assessments, while increasing study efficiency by identifying points of knowledge that may require additional review," said Karen Plaus, PhD, CRNA, FAAN, CAE, NBCRNA CEO.

The American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM) has licensed SelfStudy360 to offer its members a program for ongoing maintenance of certification, digitally presenting a set of questions via any mobile device that keeps physicians up-to-date. The ABVLM was established in 2007 to improve the standards of medical practitioners and the quality of patient care related to the treatment of venous disorders and all aspects of venous disease. In addition, the organization establishes initial and continuing qualifications for certification and maintenance of certification as physician specialists in the practice of venous and lymphatic medicine.

SelfStudy360 charter licensees include the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) which is using the AI-powered platform to deliver personalized IARS content and adaptive continuing medical education (CME) programs to its members, and the OpenAnesthesia.org website, a comprehensive resource for anesthesiology residents and physicians worldwide, as well as its question-based mobile application supporting resident and physician education.

SelfStudy will demo the SelfStudy360 platform and its new CourseBuilder module at the upcoming 2018 Fall Summit of the Nursing Organizations Alliance (NOA), November 15-17 in Louisville, Kentucky.
