Texas Women's Empowerment Foundation Hosts "Impact Day"


The Texas Women's Empowerment Foundation (TWEF) partnered with multiple business and community leaders across the Greater Houston area to provide a day of empowerment on Saturday, October 20, 2018. With more than 5,500 participants, the inspiring and empowering day featured workshops focusing on a variety of topics, issues and concerns and then concluded with a scholarship celebration. TWEF Founder Deavra Daughtry and Honorary Chair Vanessa Reed, Comerica Bank, encouraged the community to come together, make an impact and get connected both personally and professionally.

To celebrate its "Sweet 16" anniversary, TWEF along with Majic 102.1 FM culminated a summit and scholarship celebration at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion with a special performance by award-winning actress and singer Patti Labelle. TWEF awarded a total of $16,000 in scholarships to four recipients who graduated from the TWEF Eagle Scholar Program. After completing the program, each recipient continued to volunteer and serve throughout the organization and maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher. The Eagle Scholar Program is supported by 50 mentors.

"I am passionate about giving back and helping families reach their fullest potential by providing scholarships and empowerment programs," said Daughtry. "Our goal is that TWEF will continue to take our programs on the road to other U.S. cities and encourage others to inspire each other and the youth."

TWEF's Impact Day consisted of free workshops and community events, which were held simultaneously throughout the Greater Houston area, included:

  • An Elevator Business Pitch Workshop at the J.W. Marriott-Galleria hosted by world renowned speakerand Coach Les Brown and Dwight Pledger. Attendees learned about the art of developing a three-minute brand pitch.
  • For an intimate gathering, TWEF Co-Founder Ebone Stowers hosted a Wife Ready Boot Camp Brunch at Hotel ZaZa for women who desire to prepare for marriage.
  • The Supernatural Women Brunch was hosted by Joanne McGarthy focusing on networking and empowering women.
  • TWEF along with Wealth Development Strategies, LLC presented Morning Spill: Leaving a Legacy at Canopy Restaurant. The seminar was hosted by Sonya Troullier and allowed guests to plan and prepare for their family's financial legacy.
  • A credit workshop was held at St. John's Downtown, where guests learned to correct erroneous information, how to request a credit report and understand credit history, and received comprehensive information about credit repair. The Credit: Your way to Financial Success workshop was presented by The Bridge Path and Rudy Cavazos.
  • TWEF along with Microsoft (News - Alert) presented Politics X.0 Digital Summit at Texas Southern University. Students in the field of political science, computer science and business gathered to engage in topics of the reinvention of the 21st century and emerging technology.
  • I'm Not Afraid, I'm Prepared - Emotional support and hurricane preparedness and awareness for Seniors and their families was hosted by Barbara Curtis at the Refreshing Church.
  • Conversations and Live Painting Demonstration was hosted by John Guess at the Houston Museum of African American Culture. Guests learned the process of painting as the featured artist Eddie Filer created a new work of art.
  • The "Get Yo' Mind Right" Leadership for Greater Impact seminar addressed mental balance in business and leadership was hosted by Charisa Munroe.



TWEF Program Sponsors included Capital One (News - Alert), Comerica Bank, GSK Tech, H-E-B, Microsoft, Soul Fit Grill, Southwest Airlines, State Farm, Univision and UPS.
