GigaIO Collaborates with San Diego Supercomputer Center to Explore the Capabilities of FabreX™ TechnologyCARLSBAD, Calif., Nov. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- GigaIO Inc., an innovator of data center network architecture and connectivity solutions, today announces a collaboration with the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at the University of California San Diego to advance high-performance computing research using GigaIO's FabreX™ hyper-performance network. "SDSC is leading the way in data-intensive computing and cyberinfrastructure," says Alan Benjamin, president and CEO of GigaIO. "A team from SDSC joined members of GigaIO to explore the capabilities of FabreX. SDSC is the perfect environment in which to study high-performance computing technology." GigaIO's FabreX architecture demonstrates accelerated performance and increased scalability. In a recent performance profiling and composability testing of FabreX using anelastic wave propagation code, a team from SDSC and GigaIO simulated the dynamic rupture and wave propagation that occurs during an earthquake. When compared to the existing sytem at SDSC, GigaIO calculated that the team was able to achieve roughly 25 percent better performance at one-third the price with FabreX, indicating that the technology enabled better results in less time and dramatically reduced cost. "This collaboration demonstrates the value that academic supercomputer centers can deliver in working with startups and early-stage technology companies. The testing and evaluation of new technologies contributes to the overall 'innovation economy' and brings new capabilities to advance scientific research," says Ron Hawkins, SDSC's director of industry relations.
