Made of Millions Launches as a DIY Advocacy Platform for the Mental Health Community

With policy makers and institutions failing, it’s time for a do-it-yourself approach to driving global change

NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ushering in a new era of grassroots mental health advocacy, Pure OCD sufferers Aaron Harvey and Rose Cartwright and mental health awareness advocates Anastasia Kuznetsova and Lauren O’Shaughnessy are redefining what it means to live with a mental condition in 2018 with a new platform that uses art, technology and culture to empower change.

Today’s launch of the new platform—Made of Millions—takes a no BS approach to mental health in order to empower individuals with information that helps them fight stigma, take control of their recovery and begin making incremental progress in their local communities.

Made of Millions is designed to connect people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and religions and is specifically for the creator class — those who want to use their skills for good. It will serve as a global call to action, urging survivors and advocates to incite local change through media, art and design.

Each month, the platform will honor mental health changemakers online and off through editorialized issues that hit on five key pillars—work, school, family, faith and policy—starting with co-founder Rose Cartwright and photographer Yumna Al-Arashi. Future issues will feature global advocates driving change in their communities, including leaders in New York, Nigeria, Australia, and beyond.

We are flipping the script on the storyline that sufferers are weak and dependent,” said Aaron Harvey, co-founder of Made of Millions, Intrusive Thoughts & Ready Set Rocket. “I am proof, Rose is proof, and there are thousands more just like us that are using their skills to make changes that institutions and policymakers simply cannot. This is a space for people affected by mental health to fight stigma, advance education and improve access to care.”

The website itself is a destination where sufferers can go to not only access and upload country specific resources, like emergency helplines, support groups, nonprofits and other mental health services, but find a community of people who are looking to listen, learn and grow together. Users can discuss their personal advocacy progress, and coach one another into making further strides at home, school, work and beyond.

“With Made of Millions, we’re looking to diversify a conversation that’s been misrepresentative for too long,” said Rose Cartwright, UK-based advocate, author of PURE, and co-founder of Made Millions. “There’s no one face of mental health. We want to empower those suffering in silence to share their unique experiences and advocate for others.”

Made of Millions launches on October 10th, World Mental Health Day, but will help lead the charge for advocacy beyond the global holiday. For more information about Made of Millions, please visit: madeofmillions.com.
